During a school bus crash caused by a drunken biker, 14-year-old Rain Nelson discovers a map leading to ancient Lakota relics. Rain's father, Chase, President of the Outlaws, and Daws Holland, president of the Elder's Den, have been feuding for years. To retrieve the map, Daws sends the Nomad to murder Chase. Rain and his little brother, Jessie, discover him dead on their front porch.
Rain and Jessie are adopted by Big Mike Tory. To keep the boys from joining the Outlaws, Mike moves them to Havelock. There, Rain falls in love with the daughter of Billy Connors, owner of the Emerald Pub. Using the map to obtain the relics, Rain is involved in a shoot-out with Daws Holland. Daws is killed. Rain is sent to prison. Ten years pass by. The relics remain hidden. 13-year-old Reason Nelson, son of Rain, becomes a target of the Holland clan, who send the Nomad after him. Reason's grandfather, Billy Conners, Irish gunrunner of the Emerald Pub, enlists the help of Ben Blackbull, owner of Wounded Arrow dog ranch, to prevent the Nomad from killing Reason.
Who finally retrieves the relics? Will they be returned to the Cheyenne River Reservation? Or will they be sold at auction where they are worth millions? Care to come along for the ride?
