As their senses get overloaded with newly discovered things, naturally, kids are going to wonder about them. Too many times have I seen an inquisitive child ask a question only to get shut down with a quick, brush off response. As a father of 3, I can admit that I am guilty of doing this from time to time. But then I realized what that does to a child’s curiosity, it crushes it. In the young years of life, asking questions and finding answers is the ultimate mission. I am in a happy interracial marriage and I’m fortunate enough to have 3 beautiful mixed children. We are a library-going family and have more books in our home than we can count! Something I noticed as we were doing reading time with our kids was there wasn’t many households in the books that looked like the household my children are a part of. I noticed that there weren’t many children in the books that looked like my children, either. I remember when I was a child how excited I would be when I saw someone that looked like me in a tv show, a book or a movie. I want my children, and all the other children who have households like ours, to feel that excitement that I felt when I was growing up.
