Just when Cassie thought she knew what her life was all about, the past came to show that all was not what it seemed.

John Duffy was a correctional officer at Huntsville Unit, north of Houston, Texas. He suspected that criminal activities were being committed by prisoners and the guards, all under the approval of the prison's Assistant Warden. On his own, John started investigating what was happening at the prison, and when he confronted the higher authorities, he was murdered for it. John left his wife, Cassie, a widow, and his young twins, Elias and Eliany, fatherless in his death.

Cassie Duffy is a single mother who has been married three times. Her first marriage, annulled within a few hours of the wedding, was to Michael. Her second attempt at marriage was to John. Cassie's marriage to John was everything she had hoped marriage would be. It ended when John was murdered. Cassie's third marriage, which should never have happened, was to Jarrod. That marriage ended when Jarrod cheated on her with her closest friend, Gemma.

Cassie was content with her life. She had her wonderful yet off-kilter family, her wonderful friends, her store, the two youth bands, and the choir. Her life was good. She wouldn't change a thing.

Graham Mason was a widower with a son, Sebastian, leaving the nest to join the military. He also had a teenage daughter, Alisa. His late wife, Marisol, had passed away a few years before. He had grieved for his wife but missed the companionship of a spouse.

Graham had never considered his neighbor, Cassie Duffy, as anything other than a neighbor. Until the day Cassie got locked out of her house and had to use his phone, wearing a pink bathrobe, her hair in rollers that looked more like alien antennas, and her toenails painted like pineapples. Her look alone had him curious enough to go to the neighborhood Luau.

When Graham reached out to Cassie to help him find his lunatic of a runaway daughter, Cassie did what any neighbor would do. She helped him look for her

When Cassie found documents that her late husband had kept secret from her, she didn't know what to do. That's where Graham stepped in with his experience in law enforcement. Cassie had helped him when he needed her help, and he would help her now that she needed his help.
