The senseless, and perhaps even premeditated, murder of George Floyd while in police custody should have been a lightning rod for ALL people to rise up and work to eliminate these situations. Seeing the video of Officer Chauvin squeezing the life out of Mr. Floyd when he was already safely under the control of the police was disgusting, needless, and criminal. No matter what the crime was, the police do NOT have the authority to use deadly force when a suspected (or even guilty) criminal is no longer resisting. For those who are unaware, the heinous and terrible crime that Mr. Floyd was accused of was attempting to pass a counterfeit twenty-dollar bill! For that he lost his life and that should be a painful reminder to everyone that being anything other than white puts you at greater risk in this society. Risk of abuse, risk of violence, risk of death. The fact this is all at the hands of police makes the situation even more untenable.

Read as Megan Hernandez becomes a crusader for social justice in the way only way she knows how.
