After being exiled for rescuing a human and breaking taboo by bringing him to an anthehome, Tylidae wanders the wilderness in search of her acceptance or death. The latter seems much more likely. Her travels eventually bring her to Corvain, a port city on the edge of Caesia where a man by the name Domnic Stark holds a powerful sway.
Tylidae runs into a group of Serra Islanders on an errand for Stark. The foreigners, alone and desperate, hire her for protection and Tylidae agrees, thinking the task might give her the death she chases.
But Domnic Stark has hired a mercenary of his own. When their paths cross, will Tylidae sacrifice herself to save humans once more--or will she fight to save herself?
