Artist Julie Schachter has created 100 pinhole photographic portraits of artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers, actors and supporters thereof, who sat before a hollowed-out 1980 Who's Who book, which she refashioned into a camera. Among those celebrated in these pages are Ant Farm founder Chip Lord; artists Doug Hall and Diane Andrews Hall; painters/sculptors M. Louise Stanley, Katherine Sherwood, C. G. Simonds, Clayton Bailey; performance/video/installation artists George Coates, Paul Cotton, Lowell Darling, Spalding Gray, Doug Hollis, Joe Rees, Willie Boy Walker; filmmakers Juliet Bashore, William Farley, Jon Jost, Bill Kimberlin, George Manupelli, Rick Schmidt, Wayne Wang; writers Tamim Ansary, Ruth Reichl; musicians David Behrman, Molly Holm, David Rosenboom, and members of the bands Flipper and The Mutants. Schachter's book represents the history of creative people, who interacted and formed a kind of West Coast art movement in Northern California in the late 1900s.
