When I wrote this collection, I was dealing with pain, grief, anger, and a sense of loss. Being able to put my pain on paper helped me get through the worst of it.
In the early months, I used to carry my collection of poems with me like a security blanket, so that I could re-read them and re-visit my memories. It helped me heal, and it better allowed me to let go.
You may wonder why I want to share something so deeply personal. The answer is this: We may not all be able to put our pain on paper. Perhaps the words won’t come, or perhaps we do not appreciate how therapeutic written expression can be. I have already shared Wings with several friends over the years because it is so relatable, and have seen first-hand how the message can inspire.
I hope that you will find among these a poem that strikes a common chord and helps you process your pain and get back to your life.
