Dr. David L. Debertin grew up on a family farm in northwest North Dakota, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in the College of Agriculture at North Dakota State University, graduating summa cum laude in 1969. He finished a Master of Science degree in agricultural economics from there as well, completing that degree in 1970. From there he went to Purdue University and finished a PhD in agricultural economics in 1973. He joined the faculty in agricultural economics department at the University of Kentucky in 1974, and spent a 39 year career there in a reasearch and teaching career there, retiring in 2013. Dr. Debertin has written over a hundred academic papers, many dealing with agricultural production and consequences of technological change both in and out of agriculture. Dr. Debertin has also written several books, perhaps the best known being his book Agricultural Production Economics that is currently widely used in graduate classes in production economics around the world.
