Her father had been transferred by his employers to the Central Region, and typical of her melancholic temperament, Araba was deeply resentful of the move. Cape Coast held many sweet and sour experiences for her but a remarkable relationship with her paternal grandmother set her on a path of self-discovery and guided her through the maze of adjusting to a new and potentially hostile environment as well as a difficult relationship with her mother. This short novel was one of the five short-listed winning entries of the Burt Award for Africa Literature in 2011. This award recognizes excellence in young adult fiction from African countries.
