Thumb Prints
Dina Finba Fynn
Four year old Kweku Nyamekye, follows his mother into slavery, the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, but the odds turn in his favour. He yearns to return to his blood family, the experience of the thumb prints of his identity pervading his daily existence. His brother Kwesi Okye, back in Africa, nurtures venom against his community for succumbing to slavery, and practicising some cultural and religious practices which he believes has destroyed his family. He would not let go the past, and refuses ‘to try to forget’ the atrocities that had earlier befallen his family. The story revolves around these two personalities and some others, conjoined together to bring out the lustre in this novel.
