Esther Ebireri's Christian fiction, The Unknown King; follows king Makimba, the king of Sakhi Kingdom; and his son, Prince Rufai. There is trouble in the land; and the solution lies in finding Maryann and her child.

Things get complicated as Prince Rufai defiles the kingdom's royal funeral ground; when he invites his clergy friend to talk about a 'strange God' at the funeral ceremony of his late mother- the queen. Balak, King Makimba's twin, takes advantage of the situation, connives with the chief priest to eliminate his brother; in order to satisfy his age long desire to sit on the throne of Sakhi.

Meanwhile, Prince Rufai leaves for Ghana in search of Maryann's child- the Unknown King that must be found in order to bring an end to all the calamities plaguing his people. Prince Rufai finds Maryann's mother in Kenya. Three months later, he returns to Sakhi with Maryann's second son; Eric; together with the Precepts for the Governance of the Sakhi Kingdom- a book authored by the Unknown King. Unfortunately, he finds his father dead- his father had been murdered by Balak; a few hours before Prince Rufai arrives at the palace.

Prince Rufai and his sister, princess Anita; mourns their father. But justice must take its course. Balak is tried and sentenced. Prince Rufai is crowned king. It was a new day for Sakhi. He marries the love of his life, Moana- a woman he had met in Ghana.
