Treasures from Juniper Ridge is a collection of ‘hidden’ or terma teachings given by Padmasambhava, the Tantric Buddhist master who brought Buddhism to Tibet from what is now northern Pakistan in the ninth century. These teachings were revealed to Yeshe Tsogyal, also known in the Nyingma tradition as the Great Bliss Queen, Padmasambhava’s mystic spiritual consort, and the compiler and keeper of his teachings. According to Tulku Urgyen Rinpoche, Before leaving Tibet, Padmashambhava hid many teachings to be uncovered in the future by revealers of hidden treasures. Because of changes and fluctuations in world history, each treasure revealer would appear in designated times to benefit beings facing difficulties. Being aware of future problems Padmasambhava concealed specific practices especially suited to the time they were to be discovered. Hidden teachings come directly from Padmashambhava and are revealed by his disciples in future incarnations, and then are spread among people for immediate practice. The special quality of the terma teachings concealed by Padmasambhava is that they provide guidance that is appropriate for each generation, period of time, and individual person who meets them. In this single source book there are various revelations for the advanced path of the Tibetan Vajrayana tradition, as well as in-depth explanations of assorted aspects of practice: deity-focused meditation, non-conceptual meditation, death and dying and recognizing the nature of mind. The book outlines ways for the modern student to apply these teachings while remaining true to traditional principles.
