Ronald Reagan was one of the most popular presidents in American history. He was born in 1911 in Illinois and raised in a small town. His father was a shoe salesman and his mother was a homemaker. Reagan graduated from high school in 1928 and then attended Eureka College. He majored in economics and sociology and played soccer while he was there. After college, Reagan moved to Hollywood where he worked as an actor. He appeared in more than 50 films during his career. Reagan married actress Jane Wyman in 1940 and they had two children together. In 1952, they divorced. Reagan married Nancy Davis in 1952 and they had two children together. Reagan was elected governor of California in 1966 and served two terms. He ran for president in 1980 and won the election. He served two terms as president from 1981 to 1989. During his presidency, Reagan lowered taxes, increased military spending, and negotiated peace treaties with the Soviet Union. He left office with high approval ratings and was nicknamed The Great Communicator. Reagan died in 2004 at the age of 93.
