Those verses in the Vedas that amplify the greatness of man, his soul’s journey, and his ultimate purpose are termed as Upanishads. Traditionally the verses in each Veda have been classified as Mantra portion or Brahmana portion.

Within the Brahmana portion, there is a further sub-classification of verses, namely Brahmana-Aranyaka-Upanishad. Technically Brahmana means planning, discussion & analysis. Aranyaka means research & philosophy. Upanishad means essential thought or guiding principle.

Shvetashvatara is from the Krishna Yajurveda. It develops the concept of Brahman, a loving compassionate fluid that permeates all beings and the entire Creation. Only the inward senses can glimpse it, only a brave seeker can attempt the discovery. ——————————————- Contains Original verses in Sanskrit with a Latin transliteration and a lucid English commentary. Word boundary and literal word meaning is listed for three chapters.

3.1 When all men wake up, who wakes them up? When all men sleep who puts them to slumber? Ponder ponder. When we see incredible talents blossom in men all over the world, who is responsible for infusing them in the first place? Is there a Lord of the universe? Is there someone who protects the tender saplings and watches over the babies? Rare are the folk who wonder and ponder on such inscrutable tracks. Those who so venture on these lonely paths, surely attain the Supreme. They get rid of their frustrations and anxieties, they are elevated to a plane bereft of turmoil.

3.2 There is one fluid that flows in each man. This fluid is the same in each, irrespective of different emotions, currents, and tendencies that are secondary and less important. The common current in all is not easily perceived, it continues unabated and in full strength, irrespective of circumstances, events, age or any phenomena.
