Ground water is one of the nation's most valuable natural resource of a country. In order to receive maximum benefit from the ground water resources, it is essential that everyone from the general mass to municipal authorities and the ground water regulatory authorities become more knowledgeable about the occurrence, development and protection of ground water. About the Author Sanjay Akhauri graduated with honours in Physics and Mathematics and Geology and M.Sc.in Geology from Ranchi University. He worked in Central Ground Water Board (1993 - 98) for groundwater exploration in hard rock area of Chhotanagpur plateau. Since then he is working as Consultant Hydrogeologist for several organisations and has carried out numerous successful ground water investigations for water supply and environmental clearance of small scale industry. He was also associated in National Slum Development Programme of Govt. of Bihar. He has published several research papers on ground water exploration in journal and is a member of the Society of Geo Scientist, Jharkhand. Hari Mohan Akhauri obtained his M.Sc. in Applied Geophysics from Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad in 1972 and was awarded Gold Medal for his first rank. He worked as a Trainee Geophysicist with Oil India Limited (1972 - 73), as Junior Geophysicist in Central Ground Water Board (1973 - 81) and joined Central Mine Planning & Design Institute in 1981 and retired as Chief Manager (Geophysics) in 2010. He has worked extensively in ground water exploration in West Bengal, Bihar and Odisha and also in the coal fields. He has published several research papers in journals and presented papers in Seminars and symposium. He developed Software named "SASLINT" for interpretation of geophysical logs and assessment of coal quality. He is a life member of Association of Exploration Geophysicists and Society of Geoscientist, Jharkhand.
