This publication explores issues related to the role of public health authorities in the prevention and control of sexually transmitted infections. The guide is divided into five parts. The introduction provides background information and explains the terminology used throughout the guide. The second section, on general considerations, discusses a number of basic principles that should be considered in approaching public health policies. Operational consideration and specific STI policy issues are presented in section three. Sections four and five list relevant publications and annexes.
