Guidelines for Dengue Surveillance and Mosquito Control

Forty per cent of the world’s population live in areas where transmission of dengue infection occurs, with an estimated 50 million cases of infection each year. This publication contains guidelines for the prevention and control of dengue haemorrhagic fever, focusing on vector surveillance and control programmes, with priority given to simple environmental measures which individuals and communities can take to eliminate larval breeding. Aspects discussed include chemical and biological control methods, personal protection measures, space spraying, legislation, early recognition and treatment of cases, social mobilisation and communication.
