Texterna i den har boken tillkom under aren 1933-35. Bernhard Nordh hade sex ar tidigare beslutat sig foer att foersoeka leva pa sitt skrivande och han har sjalv uttryckt att han bombarderade redaktionerna med noveller och andra texter. Manga ganger fick han anpassa sitt skrivande till redaktoerernas oenskemal om spanning och karlek men i sitt lexikon fick han slappa sin fantasi fri och fabulera kring orden och dess betydelser. Delar av texterna publicerades i manga tidskrifter under rubriker som Smalanningens lexikon, Svenssons lexikon och senast i Vasterbottens Kuriren som Bernhard Nordhs lexikon. Lexikonet har aldrig tidigare utgivits i bokform.
