Nineteen anachronistic photographic collages, based on photographs from Iran, the late 19th century, by Sam Vaseghi.
Like a painter who selects with utmost diligence and thoroughness his palette of colours and their material quality for painting and calculates his composition meticulously, I focused on selecting the sets of my photographic codes from different epochs and places, and creating a composition in every collage, keeping in mind that the total set of nineteen collages, too, builds a composition of its own. The selection and preparation process took many years, and the elements that we find here are a selection made from thousands of photographs and photographic elements.
Every collage is a thoughtful artwork, with a precisely-planned mise-en-scene of codes in different layers that codify questions and answers about Iranian culture to the observer.
