English summary: This book proposes to bring to the attention of critics the figure of a painter who represents a unicum in the panorama of the late fifteenth century Italy. The present volume deals in a systematic and in-depth way not only with themes related to the genesis of images, the historical context that produced them and the stylistic dialogue interwoven with other contemporary works, but investigates the profound reasons rooted in the history of the Church and in the theological debate of time, which influenced its forms and contents. Italian summary: Il progetto editoriale Lorenzo da Viterbo, Magister Pictor del Rinascimento Italiano, nato in occasione del 550 anniversario dell'esecuzione degli affreschi della Cappella Mazzatosta in Santa Maria della Verita a Viterbo (1469-2019), si propone di portare all'attenzione della critica la figura di un pittore che rappresenta un unicum nel panorama del tardo Quattrocento italiano. Il presente volume affronta in modo sistematico e approfondito non solo tematiche legate alla genesi delle immagini, al contesto storico che le ha prodotte e al dialogo stilistico intessuto con le altre opere coeve, ma indaga le ragioni profonde, radicate nella storia della Chiesa e nel dibattito teologico del tempo, che ne hanno influenzato le forme e i contenuti.
