These early writings of Cervantes date from his time of imprisonment in Algiers. On his return to Spain, between 1582 and 1587, he wrote his first plays. Only two remain: El cerco de Numancia and El cerco de Numancia. Many of his texts reflect the time he spent among the Islamic world, and none moreso than this one.
