A los veinticinco anos fueron incluidos varios poemas de Quevedo en la antologia de Pedro Espinosa Flores de poetas ilustres (1605). La primera edicion de sus versos fue publicada postumamente por Jusepe Gonzalez de Salas con el titulo de El Parnaso espanol, monte en dos cumbres dividido, con las nueve musas castellanas (1648). Un sobrino de Quevedo, Pedro Aldrete y Villegas, publico su obra lirica en Las tres ultimas musas castellanas (1670). Quevedo fue adversario de Luis de Gongora y de los culteranos, a quienes ridiculizo en varios poemas y en los opusculos de critica literaria La culta latiniparla (1629) y La aguja de navegar cultos (1631).
