Mpreis

There is nothing else in Europe quite like the M-Preis food stores of the Austrian Tyrol. In two decades, the family-run chain has built more than 100 new food markets, serving both urban and rural locations. M-Preis does not see its architects as mere coachbuilders, designing the shell, but consults them on everything from location to shelving layout and merchandise display. Over and above the functional quality of the spaces created, the supermarkets designed by Perrault have developed the interplay of ‘nature’ and ‘culture’ into a self-reflective, ‘flickering’ construct. The publication presents Jordi Bernado’s photographs of each one of the M-PREIS buildings - three in all - designed by Dominique Perrault.
