Las tormentas del 48 is the first novel in the fourth series of Episodios Nacionales by Benito Perez Galdos. The fourth series opens with a new narrator, Jose, a worldly man living in Madrid in 1848. With his wealth come issues of moral character, and through his memoirs the political tension of the era plays out, with the emergence of socialist ideas yet another era of military revolt.
