Juan Martin el Empecinado is the ninth novel in the first series of Episodios Nacionales dy Benito Perez Galdos. It tells the story of a famous guerilla soldier in the Spanish War of Independence who fought against Napolean’s troops and was executed for opposing the restoration of the absolute Monarchy. The squalid conditions of guerilla soldiers are featured throughout the novel.
