V. C. R. T.

‘V.C.R.T.’ - which stands for Violent Crime Response Team - is a publication consisting of a bundle of texts, drawings, letters, e-mails and notes which accompany Thomas Hirschhorn’s work from the beginnings of his artistic creation. These pages, like a logbook, are the continuation of the research and statements of this Swiss artist. Chronologically classified, they mark and bear witness to his trajectory in the field of art throughout its questions, its requirements and its problems. By bringing together in one publication these scattered sheets, as a suggestion of Bombas Gens Centre d'Art and in co-edition with La Fabrica publishing house, Thomas Hirschhorn intends to affirm his mission and his passion as an artist, which make him ask himself: How to take an artistic position? How to shape this position? How can this shape be universal? And how can this Universal Form may be able to touch beyond cultural, political, economic and aesthetic habits? The publication ‘V.C.R.T’ brings together for the first time a selection of 400 pages in the language in which they were originally written (German, French or English), 23 of which have been translated into Spanish for this beautiful artist book. AUTHOR: Thomas Hirschhorn (Switzerland, 1975). He studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule Zurich and moved to Paris in 1983 where he has been living since. He is known for his sculptural constructions produced from mass consumer products. Hirschhorn collects and assembles both references and images drawn from popular media and from the work of theorists. Hirschhorn uses everyday materials to create his work. The process of creation remains visible and becomes a metaphor for the individual and collective struggle to establish equality. Viewers are forced to admit and reflect on what they have so far ignored in their daily lives. Hirschhorn has exhibited all over the world and his work was shown in numerous museums, galleries and exhibitions such as the Venice Biennale, Documenta11, the 27th Sao Paolo Biennale, 55th Carnegie International, Pittsburg, La Triennale at Palais de Tokyo, Paris, 9th Shanghai Biennale, Manifesta 10 or MoMA PS1.
