Kate has just married Robert Finche, the son of a rich spice merchant and is finally free of her unbearable aunt. She believes she has finally achieved her dream of having a happy family life. Soon the Great Fire of London destroys the spice warehouse and the Finche home. Her husband and her must start from zero and try to survive in a destroyed city filled with unscrupulous people.
