This novel presents four couples at very different stages in their lives. Fifteen-year-old Louis is madly in love with 13-year-old Victoire, but he must wait until she is older for her to feel the same way. Isabelle was always a romantic girl who thought she would die of a broken heart when her husband leaves her. Monique has been happily married for 20 years, but when her children are all grown up, she decides to leave her husband and start a new life. Rosa and Pierre meet during the war and vow never to separate. These relationships present love in its entirety–with all its joys and sorrows, highs and lows.
