Leo Frobenius (1873-1938) war ein deutscher Ethnologe. Von 1904 bis 1935 unternahm er verschiedene Forschungsexpeditionen nach Afrika (Deutsche Inner-Afrikanische Forschungsexpedition), insbesondere nach Togo, Tunesien, Sambia sowie in den Sudan und den Kongo. Frobenius veroeffentlichte zahlreiche Werke, darunter auch eine umfangreiche Sammlung von afrikanischen Volkserzahlungen. Frobenius sah die afrikanische Kultur der europaischen als gleichwertig an, was fur einen Gelehrten seiner Zeit ungewoehnlich war.
