Katharina II., genannt Katharina die Gro e (1729 - 1796), war ab dem 9. Juli 1762 Kaiserin von Russland, Herzogin von Holstein-Gottorf und ab 1793 Herrin von Jever. Sie ist die einzige Herrscherin, der in der Geschichtsschreibung der Beiname die Gro e verliehen wurde. Katharina II. ist eine Repr sentantin des aufgekl rten Absolutismus.
