Giorgio Vasari (1511-1574) war ein italienischer Architekt, Hofmaler der Medici und Biograph italienischer K nstler, darunter Leonardo da Vinci, Raffael und Michelangelo. Er gilt durch seine Schriften ber das Leben und Werk zeitgen ssischer Meister als einer der ersten Kunsthistoriker. In seinen Beschreibungen der italienischen K nstler verwendete Vasari 1550 zudem als Erster das Wort Renaissance. Vasari bedachte viele italienische K nstler mit Biographien. Seine Biographischen Kunstlexika gelten trotz ihrer historischen “Ungenauigkeiten” f r Interpretationen der Renaissance als unerl sslich.
