This study examines the expansion of western Greco-Roman colonization across the Mediterranean to the Iberian Peninsula. The founding of Greco-Roman colonial cities across the peninsular territory recorded the spread of Hellenization and Romanization throughout Hispania, expressed through urbanism and architecture, which were bequeathed to posterity mainly through the ruins of monuments and buildings found in situ. The process of Romanization was highlighted in this study through the analysis of evidence from archaeological, architectural and urban remains of the capital of the Ulterior Hispanic Province of Lusitania, the Roman colonial city of Emerita Augusta, during the period of the High Roman Empire. Through the colony of Emerita, this book reveals the long Greco-Roman influence registered in the characteristics that made up a Roman colonial city, points out the magnificence and influence of a provincial city in its time, and reveals the importance of this culture in Antiquity and also its reflections in the current period, in Merida.
