My indefatigable passion for refugee policy has inspired this study. On 19 September 2016, the General Assembly of the United Nations (UNGA) adopted the New York Declaration on Refugees and migrants, which became a precursor to the Comprehensive Refugee Response Framework, the Global Compact on Refugees, and the Global Refugee Forum (GRF). Today, the world is experiencing the highest number of refugees and the least number of returnees, which encourages sharing among states while working together for durable solutions. Rwanda has hosted refugees since the 1990s. This work provides an opportunity to investigate the Geopolitics of Hosting Refugees in Rwanda (1996-2021) from a socio-legal perspective, considering current burden-sharing developments that the New York Declaration on Refugees and Migrants put in motion.
