Suicide remains a significant public health issue in Nigeria, with rising rates among youths. The role of mass media in shaping perceptions and behaviors related to suicide is critical, particularly in regions like Benue State where cultural and socio-economic factors may influence mental health outcomes. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of mass media in combating suicide in Benue State by evaluating the content, reach, and impact of suicide-related reporting across various media platforms. In collecting data, the researcher employed the survey research method with the instruments of questionnaire to elicit data from respondents on a sample size of 400. Among other findings, the study also indicates that, the effectives or causes of suicide ranges from depression, poverty, unemployment, and lack of basic amenities for all. The media and it practitioners have done a great job in painting suicide as a bad behavior and harmful practice that should be kicked out of our society.
