Messianic Judaism is a religion that mixes elements of Christianity and Judaism. Its followers believe that Jesus is the Messiah sent by God, but at the same time they celebrate traditional Jewish rituals and do not see this mixture as paradoxical. It is a hybrid religion, in which elements of Christianity and Judaism are carefully selected and applied to its doctrinal body. This book is the result of an ethnographic exercise in the messianic synagogue Beit Sar Shalom (House of the Prince of Peace), in the city of Sao Paulo. As this is an anthropological book, and with the aim of better understanding this religion, it considers various aspects of the identity of the members of this Messianic synagogue, such as an analysis of the rites of passage and initiation, and a description of the festivals and religious services celebrated by its faithful.
