Forty years after the discovery of the AIDS virus, HIV has not yet been completely eradicated, and continues to have a particularly strong impact on vulnerable groups who are far removed from healthcare due to socio-cultural and legal factors. Against this backdrop, Peer Education and the Peer Educator have established themselves as a genuine link between healthcare systems and less visible communities. While the work of peer educators has become the cornerstone of HIV prevention worldwide, the nature and purpose of this function remain unclear. This project is an attempt to clarify the function of Peer Education, and a call for greater consideration of their contributions to the fight against HIV.
