Migration and Migrants from the Pacific Coast of Colombia to Santiago de Cali
Pedro Hernando Gonzalez Sevillano
Migration is a social phenomenon present in the evolution of mankind since the beginning of humanity associated with different causes that become the engine that generates displacement. This social movement or migration occurs in two directions, departure and arrival, known as emigration and immigration. The present study mainly addresses the immigration of men and women from the Pacific Region of Colombia to the city of Cali, from a historical perspective, a sociological phenomenon that can be clearly evidenced from the fifties of the twentieth century. This does not mean that this date marks the beginning of the migratory process, it only means that from then on the number of emigrants-immigrants in the direction of the Pacific plain towards the Andean zone increased drastically. The research process develops from the departure of the Europeans to the Pacific Ocean in 1513, stopping punctually at the first foundations in the Pacific Andean region.
