Applying risk prevention in a research teaching institution

When interacting with their work environment, people can damage their health if certain safety parameters are not respected and are above tolerance limits or unsuitable for the activity being carried out, in accordance with current legislation. The analysis of the Environmental Risk Prevention Programme (PPRA) was carried out in an educational institution, where the occupational risks found in this sector were measured and analysed with the aim of eliminating or minimising them so as not to cause problems for staff, students, teachers and other people who use this space. With regard to lighting, in general, the laboratories and other facilities that were assessed were outside the limits set by legislation. Most of the time, the problem was due to the poor distribution of light fittings, the lack of monitoring to ensure that light bulbs that burn out are replaced or the use of light bulbs with inefficient power for the environment.
