Diasporic Vision in the Select Novels of V.S. Naipaul
Chukka Sankar Goud, G Gulam Tariq
This study is to explore a deeper understanding and more sensitive appreciation of positive forces as portrayed by V.S. Naipaul in the novels chosen for study. The book has been divided into seven chapters on the basis of thematic importance. The study is undertaken with a focus on how the characters of Naipaul accommodate themselves in the world ridden by the influence of conservatism and modernity in their lives. It also attempts to analyze up to what extent is diasporic vision, as represented in contemporary fiction, able to thwart the paralyzing influence of accepted beliefs and conventions and how to move out to live a life on their own terms. The methodology used is analytical. The novels have been discussed critically and have taken into account certain theories which bear relevance to diasporic writings. It also attempts to analyze Indian diaspora as presented in contemporary fiction. It also explores multifaceted experiences of a post- colonial world by dealing with contemporary human problems such as dis integration, family relationships and existential identity.
