The aim of the study was to investigate waste collection, treatment and disposal practices in this unit, considering technical, regulatory and environmental aspects in an Emergency Care Unit located in Pombal, Paraiba. To this end, an exploratory-descriptive study was carried out, supported by bibliographic and field research techniques, in which we sought to observe, analyze, correlate and describe events or phenomena, including their variables, without manipulating them, through data collection. The results revealed challenges and opportunities in the management of healthcare waste in emergency care settings. The research offers valuable insights for improving waste management strategies at this facility, contributing to the safety of health professionals, public health and environmental preservation. It was identified that the establishment evaluated has a specific plan, focusing on the management of solid waste from health services, in addition to complying with health rules made available in legislation.
