The aim of this study was to carry out a literature review to analyse the role of nurses and the importance of their theoretical and scientific knowledge in basic and advanced life support in paediatrics. Materials and Methods: This was a descriptive, exploratory study, with an integrative analysis of the literature available in virtual databases. This study identified an insufficient number of studies on the subject under investigation. It was possible to conclude that the nursing team's knowledge on this subject is still incipient. This study made it possible to identify the importance of nurses' theoretical and scientific knowledge within institutions that care for children at risk of cardiac arrest. This knowledge enables them to provide more agile care by organising the team based on their theoretical background. Therefore, there is a need to invest in training for professionals who provide direct assistance to patients in cardiac arrest.
