The appearance of the new SARS CoV2 coronavirus in 2019 has caused a veritable health crisis worldwide. This respiratory-tropic virus can lead to clinical symptoms of varying severity, particularly in fragile populations such as pregnant women. During pregnancy, women undergo anatomical and physiological changes that make them vulnerable to COVID-19 infection, an infection which, through a cytokine storm, can lead to multivisceral damage that jeopardizes maternal and fetal prognosis. For this reason, knowledge of the physiological basis of the disease, the latest studies on the subject and the latest recommendations on the management of parturients affected by COVID-19 is essential for all attending physicians. At present, COVID-19 has not yet revealed all its secrets and enigmas, and there are still many controversial issues. In this work, which we dedicate to the colleagues who faced the pandemic, we address these topical issues, in particular the evolutionary aspect of the disease with new variants, the risk of immune evasion of the virus and the outlook for COVID-19.
