Early education in the “Villa” of Sao Sebastiao
Antonio Roberto Alves Felippe
The author analyzes the documents produced by public teachers and inspectors of public primary education in the town of Sao Sebastiao on the north coast of Sao Paulo in the period from 1840, when the first schools were created in the more distant districts of the town, to 1889, the end of the imperial period. Through these we identified the teaching materials used and the methodology employed by the teachers to develop the children's learning.
