This book is the result of extensive academic research, at master's level, into the "novel" La fiesta vigilada (2007) and the set of essays Un seguidor de Montaigne mira La Habana (1995) by Cuban writer Antonio Jose Ponte. In this study, the author sets out to analyse the representations of Havana developed by the writer in order to interpret the various meanings that the images of the Cuban capital and its ruins acquire within these texts. Representations of Havana that are reproduced and multiplied in the pages of these books, in which they are linked to Antonio Jose Ponte's personal memories, but also to the island's recent history, reflecting the transformations that took place in Cuba as a result of the main historical events of the second half of the 20th century, such as the triumph of the Cuban Revolution and the economic crisis of the 1990s.
