This work traces the history of the first sixty years of the mixed company in charge of social housing in New Caledonia. The Societe Immobiliere de la Nouvelle-Caledonie (SICNC) was created in 1956 under the name Credit de la Nouvelle-Caledonie. Credit de la Nouvelle-Caledonie sets itself three objectives: housing assistance, production assistance and social assistance. In 1963, it became the Societe Immobiliere et de Credit de la Nouvelle-Caledonie (SICNC). In 1988, the credit branch became BCI and the real estate part became Societe Immobiliere de Nouvelle-Caledonie (SIC). It is assigned two objectives: to improve the living conditions of the 10,000 Caledonians housed in the existing housing stock, and to build new housing while promoting social diversity. The SIC advocates "deco-housing" and the transfer of residents from "squats" to highly subsidized social housing. In 2016, the SIC celebrates its sixtieth anniversary and continues its policy of construction and management of an impressive social housing stock. The objective remains decent housing for all families in difficulty, both in greater Noumea and on customary lands.
