Opium poppy (Papaver somniferum) is used as a medicinal plant and has been described in the ancient literature of Indian system of medicine (Ayurveda). Primarily, purified opium is described to be the major therapeutic for treating (pain, diarrhea, dysentery etc.) component. Because due to the presence of phytochemical on the plant. It contain the carbohydrates, proteins, phenols, steroids, glycosides, quinones / anthroquinone, cyanogenic glycosides, alkaloids, flavonoids, leucocyanidines, tannins, volatile oils and terpenoids. It observed highest inhibitory action against many Bacteria. The extracts found effective against certain Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. The activity while bacterial strains showed good activity against test sample in both concentrations. The concentration depended manner play on very important role in the antimicrobial activity. In the present work proven that the Papaver somniferum shows maximum inhibitor action against Proteus and Pyogens when compared with other test organisms. So the project work concluded that the essential from Papaver somniferum has effectively outstanding antimicrobial activity.
