Analysis of self-efficacy in Parkinson’s patients who exercise

R?mulo Cust?dio, Carmen Jansen

Ageing is inevitable in people's lives. The search for a better quality of life during this process is one of the great challenges. Increasing age involves various factors, which are influenced by the environment in which the person is inserted. How can aging be analyzed from the individual's own perspective? Test their limitations? Encourage them to break down these barriers in search of a better quality of life? Among the existing concepts for analyzing aging in a broader way, this article will deal with the concept of self-efficacy. This methodology proposes that individuals establish their own perception of their abilities and competencies, in the face of aspects and challenges related to their social and individual life in society. The study involved elderly people with Parkinson's disease, a chronic dysfunction that affects and limits the individual in both physical and mental aspects. To this choice was added a program of strength exercises, a preventive and therapeutic alternative to minimize the motor and non-motor symptoms of the disease. Finally, an analysis of the concept of self-efficacy was applied. This approach is very relevant today.
