Education in the Brazilian prison system was practically non-existent until 2014. Recent efforts have been gradually changing this reality, since the chaotic situation that hangs over Brazilian prisons is partly the result of poorly planned policies for the resocialisation of prisoners, whose right to education carries great weight. In this book, we study the legal culture of two student populations from the Federal University of Maranhao, focussing on the precepts of the right to education for prisoners contained in the Penal Execution Law. It is suitable for sociologists and legal researchers, as well as anyone else who may be interested in this subject.
