The transport of ore slurry in pipelines is the main means used by companies in the sector. These underground pipelines are highly susceptible to internal corrosion, caused mainly by the material being transported, and external corrosion, influenced by various factors inherent to the environment, such as the type of coating and the characteristics of the soil, the material and the design of the pipeline. With a view to the best form of protection against external corrosion for pipelines, the most widely used methods of combating it were studied and, for this application, it was observed that cathodic protection is one of the most commonly applied, generally in the form of impressed current due to the conditions involved in the installation process involving large pipelines. In addition to this technique, pre-coating is used on the surface of these pipelines. Therefore, corrosion protection techniques were evaluated by monitoring them through a case study carried out on the pipeline of a large mining company.
