The Metabolic Syndrome is defined as a set of interconnected alterations, among which obesity, insulin resistance, hyperlipidemia, arterial hypertension, a pro-thrombotic and pro-inflammatory state are of special relevance. Its importance lies in the fact that it is associated as a multiple risk factor for developing cardiovascular diseases and chronic kidney disease. In addition, the World Health Organization reveals that non-communicable diseases such as myocardial infarction, renal failure, neuropathies and dyslipidemias are the first cause of death worldwide. An experimental study was carried out at the Biomedical Experimental Research Unit and the Experimental Toxicology Unit, of the University of Medical Sciences of Villa Clara, in the period from September 2019 to May 2023. It was framed in the determination of the enzymatic activity of superoxide dismutase and catalase in erythrocytes of Wistar rats submitted to a hyperglycemic diet (sucrose) from weaning to adulthood, thus establishing a biomodel of Metabolic Syndrome.
